I had a stunningly beautiful birthday dinner at La Vie Restaurant at the Wharf in Washington, DC. Let’s start with the views. First, you must take the elevator to floor 4.6 (yes include the .6) Upon exiting the elevator, I walked into this magnificent room with walls of windows overlooking the wharf. The perfect geometric table placement adds to the magnificence of the restaurant. No matter where you sit, you have an amazing view.
La Vie has some show stopping drinks. The Sugar, Spice, and Everything Tequilla is flavored with amaretto, maple, and a flaming lime. The Rose Sangria is garnished with an orchid.My favorite of the cocktails is the All Smoke, No Fire which is bourbon and peach, mixed with a pecan chai simple syrup and maple. It is so smoky and rich. The best part, it is served in a smoke filled glass bird cage!
For dinner, we had Seafood Tagliatelle, which is shrimp, cuttlefish (similar to calamari) clams, creme fraiche, white wine sauce and garlic streusel. Next up, the hearty Lamb Chops served with marbled potatoes and split pea puree.
I had the Lobster Risotto with seafood ragu, garlic aioli and crispy basil. Y’all know I love basil and lobster. Although I wanted to save room for dessert, I just could not stop eating. We did not have any to-go bags after this meal.
Now for dessert. Cotton Candy Baked Alaska. Here’s a secret. They use Goslings 151 Bermuda Black Rum to set the Cotton Candy Baked Alaska on Fire. This. dessert. is. a. show! It is a dome of cotton candy placed in the center of the table then doused with the flame of rum for a stunning reveal of the ice cream cake inside! Here’s the best part. You can order this dessert anytime…..even if it is not your birthday. Wow, just Wow.
La Vie did give me a special dessert just for my birthday. It is an individual chocolate cake that is not on the menu. They place a burning sparkler on the cake that burns long enough for me to make the perfect wish. Can you guess my wish? Happy Birthday to me!
