An Evening filled with HeArt & Sole

Imagine walking into a room and seeing your favorite celebrity chef offering you bites of their amazing food.  Now, imagine looking to your left and to your right and seeing another celebrity chef and third celebrity chef, all of whom are offering you bites of their delicious dishes.  Well, there is no need to imagine. Our favorite DC resident Celebrity Chef Rock Harper made all of our culinary dreams come true at the annual HeArt & Sole fundraising event on September 26, 2019.

HeArt & Sole is the signature event of Washington, DC’s oldest private social service agency, Central Union Mission.  HeArt & Sole features Hell’s Kitchen Winner, Chef Rock Harper as well as other celebrity chefs who volunteer their culinary expertise to provide gourmet tastes of their cuisine creations.  This one of a kind glamorous event included VIP Chef Chopped style competition, live entertainment by Ivy League band and lots of celebrity chefs and local celebrity appearances. This is all for the mission of caring for the hungry and homeless neighbors in Washington, DC.

Everything was so good.  It’s hard to select a winning dish from this group.  Instead, I will review the most memorable tastes I experienced.

First, Chef Brazil of Spyce Co. served Maryland Old Bay Crab Grilled Cheese and Roasted Tomato Bisque.  It was so delicious. I have a confession. I ate five portions throughout the evening. It was so good!  I wish I had more right now.

The Uncaged Chef Damian and crew prepared his famous Jerk Pasta.  I enjoyed watching people taste the pasta for the first time. The look of delight on their faces was great to see.

Catering John gave us big bites of crab with his Deconstructed Jumbo Lump Crab & Lobster Wonton w/Grain Mustard Beur Blanc.

Chef Ama of Ama’s Catering Experience gave us a full spread of African and Caribbean cuisine.

Chef Craig Jones from Mardi Gras Tyme gave us a taste of New Orleans.  Check out the Mardi Gras Tyme salt free spices.

If you are like me, then you like dessert as much as you like dinner.  There was a separate room just for desserts!!!! Chef Alexis Streets from The Dessert Junkie has a display full of our favorite treats.  There were various flavors of cupcakes, cheesecakes, chocolate covered strawberries. I ate the red velvet mini-cupcake in one bite.

Celebrity Pastry Chef Dawn Alston from Ravy Cakes had her signature Vegan Chocolate Cake.  The cake was moist, sweet, and tastes like a regular cake. If I did not know it was vegan, I would not have known.  Great job Chef Dawn.

Overall, HeArt and Sole was a great success!  It’s the perfect combination of great food serving a great cause.
